What was the first thing you made in the kitchen? Chances are good that it was cookies, or maybe cake. The familiarity and emotional connections we have with pastries and baked goods are what fascinates New York City-based pastry chef Dominique Ansel. As he recalls, his first experience in the kitchen was likely making crepes or cake with his mother during his childhood in France.
